Grad Photos

Posted in Reunion Planning at 10:33 pm by Marlene (81)

Hi Corey,

I’m curious to know if I can post some grad photos. I have about 80 grad photos of the dinner and dance and boat cruise back in ‘81. I don’t even know some of the people I took photos of but I remember wanting to get everyone so I would not forget that wonderful time! Let me know If I should post the best of the bunch, nothing incriminating will be used I promise.

To the someone from BC …

Posted in General, Reunion Planning at 5:21 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

Hi there! If you’re reading this, you’ve found me. Just to let the other readers in on things, I was contacted by someone from the School Board that another person has asked to have a reunion in June. Because of privacy act laws and such, they are not allowed to give us each others name. This despite the fact I’ve given them specific permission to pass my name along. But it was ok for her to pass on this website. So hopefully, the person from BC who has also attempted to initiate a class reunion is reading this. You may use the contact form at the right to send me an email if you wish. We should talk! I’m hoping we can merge our efforts. And I’m really curious who you are!

Can we do this?

Posted in General, Reunion Planning at 4:57 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

OK guys, it’s crunch time.

At this point, I had hoped to find a lot more people. We’re looking at a reunion of 25 people at this point. Doing this at the school isn’t financially viable with that number of folks. I think I need some help here. I’m at the point where I have to start committing money to booking the various things need for that night (like food/music/liquor/hall rental etc.).

Feel free to give your opinions/feedback on this. Are you guys prepared to give a push and starting calling around to find people? If it’s all on me, it won’t get done. If we can get a hundred or so classmates to come, we can make it work. I’m prepared to give to the end of January. If we don’t have the critical mass of people needed by then, we’ll have to give up the idea of a social type reunion. No one would be more disappointed than I would be if we can’t do it. I hope enough of you can step up to assist in finding everyone we can.

What do you think?

Some Reunion Plans

Posted in Reunion Planning at 3:14 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

Tony B started mentioning some ideas we’ve also had and are planning. I thought I should mention them here so everyone can have a chance to give some feedback and maybe participate in the planning.

1) BBQ - Tony asked Neal if his yard was big enough. We’re actually planning a BBQ supper for the reunion day in the Courtyard of the school. We thought it would be a much more enoyable experience than an indoor supper, but if rain happens, we’ll have backup plans. If you want to chime in on what your preference would be for such a thing, hit the comments link. Are we talking steak or bratwurst?  Fancy or simple? What do you like/ (this changed, stay tuned)

2) Floor hockey and such things have been mentioned a few times in the comments. We’re getting access to the gym as well, and had tentatively planned for a floor hockey game or two. We’ve got some time in the afternoon before the meal for these kinds of things, so if Tony, Neal, or anyone else would like to take charge for running and planning this stuff, speak up. I’ll help with the planning through this site, so if you need any resources here, just ask.

That’s it for the moment. This reunion is about us, and what we want it to be, so make your feelings known!

We need to make a decision (updated)

Posted in Reunion Planning at 8:01 am by Corey Robinson (81)

The specific date needs to be booked for the reunion. I’m fairly certain June 2nd or 3rd of June 2006 is available. Also possible are the 9th or 10th, although those might conflict. More to the point, we have to decide whether or not we do this on a Friday or a Saturday. I’ll briefly explain the options, and I’d like everyone to give their opinion and preferences. If you have a preference, I’d appreciate it if you included the reasons why.

A Friday booking would be a shorter event, more in line with a typical social. It would be less expensive to run, and would take less people to operate. For those that prefer a short and sweet type event, this would be your preference. It wouldn’t be able to accommodate anyone under 18 (should someone wish to bring their younger children).

A Saturday booking can be a longer event, include more of the school, and have more than one sub events. It would be a little more expensive, and would require more people to run. It would likely have an outdoor supper in the Courtyard where family would be welcome. If you would wish to bring your family with younger children to the first part, this would be your preference. The evening would still be a typical social format, for 18+ only. Overall, Saturday would be a longer event. You might prefer more time with everyone considering it’s been 25 years.

Both events will have eats, but the style of food would be affected (Saturday having a bbq involved, the other being strictly indoor prep). Both events would have ‘extras’, like archival displays from our years, and anything else we might come up with between now and then. Saturday would give us the ability to do a little more with the extras.

So it’s really up to you guys. If there is a strong preference for one over the other, we’ll book that. If it’s split down the middle, we’ll put on our thinking caps some more. But we do need to decide soon.

So what’s your preference? (If you want to state your preference privately, click on the contact site admin link on the right).

Update: Lily S. pointed out that people travelling from out of province really need Friday for travel. So unless someone comes up with a more compelling reason for changing it, I think we’ll all agree that Saturday is the better day.

Did you get an email?

Posted in Reunion Planning at 1:55 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

Well, good!

I decided to pony up for a gold membership at classmates.com. I did this so I could email everyone there and tell them about this site. This FREE site. This free site that is run by a Daniel grad just so other grads can freely interact with one another.

Oh, and we’re planning a “25 years later” reunion for the class of 81, or thereabouts.

What can you do?
Glad I pretended you asked. You can be a part of it. You can come to the reunion in June 2006. It will be at the school, will be tons of fun, and will have some great eats. You can even help with the planning. If you’re keen on any of it, drop a comment at the bottom of this post and say so. 50,000 monkeys are hovering over their typewriters eager to take down anyone’s name.

I can’t come to a reunion, can I hang out here?
You bet! Chat, interact, post a pic or two. This is the perfect place to refind an old friend.

How are you going to find everyone?
Well, that’s where you come in! You are our secret weapon. You have knowledge of Daniel alumni, and can pass it on here. Maybe it’s only rumours? Those are good too. If you know someone from Daniel, tell them about this site. If you know so and so got a job at such and such, tell us. We’ll take every scrap of info, and give it to our advanced network of monkey detectives. They’ve only found bananas so far, so please help us with info.

We need a reunion committee!

Posted in Reunion Planning at 6:54 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

A few of us have been talking. We’ve figured some things out. But let’s take this to a new level. I’m suggesting we get an *official* Class of 81 Reunion Committee formed. If you’re interested, hit the comment button and speak up. It’s less than a year away. For everything we have to do, that’s really not much time. Who’s with me!
