Strange Fact

Posted in In search of at 10:40 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

Rodney Hunchak, and I (Corey Robinson) have separately lived with twin sisters who did not attend Daniel McIntyre. They were born in Oxford, England, moved to the Toronto area as infants, and moved to Pinawa as teenagers.

One of the twins lived in several cities, and for several years she lived up north in Inuvik. This is where Rodney Hunchak found her and they shared a home for a while. The other twin lived in a few cities, but ended up in Winnipeg where we also shared a home.

One day when the twins were talking long distance on the phone to each other, they found their roommates knew one other from high school. Call it a small world. Rodney and I had the chance to see each other at the first of the twins wedding. No, not to Rodney, instead to some other lucky fellow. Rodney was good enough to fly all the way from Inuvik to emcee her wedding. I was little luckier however, as I got to marry and have children with the twin I was living with.

Rodney, if you find this website, say hello!

Did you get an email?

Posted in Reunion Planning at 1:55 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

Well, good!

I decided to pony up for a gold membership at classmates.com. I did this so I could email everyone there and tell them about this site. This FREE site. This free site that is run by a Daniel grad just so other grads can freely interact with one another.

Oh, and we’re planning a “25 years later” reunion for the class of 81, or thereabouts.

What can you do?
Glad I pretended you asked. You can be a part of it. You can come to the reunion in June 2006. It will be at the school, will be tons of fun, and will have some great eats. You can even help with the planning. If you’re keen on any of it, drop a comment at the bottom of this post and say so. 50,000 monkeys are hovering over their typewriters eager to take down anyone’s name.

I can’t come to a reunion, can I hang out here?
You bet! Chat, interact, post a pic or two. This is the perfect place to refind an old friend.

How are you going to find everyone?
Well, that’s where you come in! You are our secret weapon. You have knowledge of Daniel alumni, and can pass it on here. Maybe it’s only rumours? Those are good too. If you know someone from Daniel, tell them about this site. If you know so and so got a job at such and such, tell us. We’ll take every scrap of info, and give it to our advanced network of monkey detectives. They’ve only found bananas so far, so please help us with info.

Trivia Question!

Posted in Yearbook Memories at 3:14 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

(UPDATE: answered below)

Who took pride in drawing perfect circles freehand?

This person would walk up to the chalk board. A zen like calm would fall over him/her. Hand poised with chalk. A brief moment of stillness. Then suddenly, after a brief twitch, the chalk would strike the chalkboard and form an arc, then back to where it started. A perfect circle would be left behind. Sometimes a smile, occasionally a comment ‘look at that’.

OK, time to answer this one. Thanks for Pam for making a guess.

My friend Bruce Thomson (dmci grad) were watching Shock Treatment, and more specifically, to a song by Farley Flavors. In there is a line “And who draws a perfect circle, anymore?” Well we knew, and we both yelled out …

Mr. Bachinsky

Mr. Bachinsky!

Yep. He took pride in those cirlces. It was amazing to watch. For years I would try to duplicate his success. I would occasionally get one perfect. But only Mr. Bachinsky could do it every time.

about classmates.com

It’s Pam again. I just tried emailing one of our classmates for Daniel Mac and since I am not a Gold member at classmates.com I couldn’t send it. I hope this answers your question Corey about whether or not you have to be a Gold member. Apparently you do. And the one receiving it has to have a Gold membership. Hope you hear from others.

just wanted to say hi

Saw a picture of Corey Robinson on this website. I remember him from Daniel Mac. You sure look different. Sounds like a cool idea having a reunion. When you have more info send to iamachristian40@yahoo.ca.

Yes, Maroon underware

Posted in Yearbook Memories at 8:47 am by Corey Robinson (81)

no maroon undewear
Until I looked back at my yearbook, and what people wrote in it, I completely forgot about this. I now remember a run on gag where I would ask Stephen Yurkiw if student council would make up some Maroon underware to sell. I had the hat, I had the duffle bag, I wanted underware too!

My yearbook doesn’t have that many signatures in it. I regret that. I only thought to get some at the very last minute on the last day. A lot of people had left already. I remember doing this with a friend, and I didn’t even get his signature! Fortunately, I still see that friend. So I guess I didn’t need it.

ah, remember this place …

I thought you might like to see the school. I took this image from my 1979 yearbook from the inside cover. That line is from the crease. This picture smells like autumn to me. It could be the sepai tone though!

Comments are open to all

I thought that maybe some people are shy about registering on a new site. So if you find this site, and just want to say hello without registering, you can now do just that. Anyone can now add comments to one of the Article Posts simply by clicking where it says comments, filling in the fields, and submitting it. It asks for your email address, but that will not be visible on the site. It’s just to stop the spammers from filling up the board.

So let’s hear from ya! The first person to make a comment wins a huge prize*.

*note, prize will neither be huge, nor a prize.

classmates.com

Posted in General at 1:15 pm by Corey Robinson (81)

I’m trying to contact people at classmates.com. I don’t have a gold membership, and even if I did, I’m not certain I can email people and have them receive it unless they also have a gold membership. (If someone knows for sure about that, chime in!). So what I did instead was create a person with the last/first names of “dmcireunion.com” and “website”. I then began sending people ‘quicknotes’, which emails them with the name of the person who sends the quick note. So, if you got a quicknote from classmates, and saw it was from dmcireunion.com, I’m sure hoping you found your way here. I’m only allowed to send 20 per day, so I’ll send more tomorrow.

If that doesn’t work, either I pay for a membership, or someone who has a membership can try emailing people in our class. If we can get them over here, they can register and talk for free. The goal of all of this is to plan a reunion for June 2006. Let’s make it happen people!
